About Short Street Cakes

Located at 225 Haywood Rd, Asheville, NC 28806, Short Street Cakes operates as a bakery serving Asheville in North Carolina. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 8 am–5 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (828) 505-4822. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, shortstreetcakes.com.

I really wanted to like Short Street Cakes, especially because I was considering them for my wedding cake. My experience was confusing and disappointing. I called one week and they explained the process to me and were very kind and chipper and gave me a direct number to call and place an order. When I called the number a week later, the number was a personal line. So I called the store number and they told me that it wasn’t possible that I was given a different number and sounded quite annoyed with me. They don’t allow tastings for weddings unless you have 75 guests or more… so I ended up having to buy 2 whole cakes to try 2 flavors and it felt like a total waste of money and was highly disappointed. The frosting was far too sweet and gritty on both flavors - after 1-2 bites I felt sick… and I LOVE frosting and sweets. Additionally, after 1-2 days the raspberry filling in one of the cakes had gone sour and started to mold. Really bad experience and was really let down by the customer service and the product itself. :(

I’ve ordered several cakes annually from this shop. Usually all is well… last years cake was clearly stale. Figured I’d give them another go because consistency… simple order this go and they messed up a chocolate buttercream iced cake with light pink ribbons… I was presented with a light pink cake… I told her it was wrong- she thought it was funny and argued with me. I asked for a discount because my daughter asked for a specific cake and doesn’t eat colored icing so she would only be able to enjoy the middle of the cake where they filled with chocolate buttercream cream. She argued and offered 10% off. I have never seen poorer customer service and zero remorse or empathy for the situation. I will never order again. She finally gave 50% and both the owner and the cashier have absolutely zero respect here for a patron and long time one at that. SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED. I’ve seen much younger cashiers maintain better communication. To add to the above madness the writing was all off center. 💆🏼‍♀️

My husband and I used Short Street Cakes for our wedding cake and cupcakes and Olga knocked it out of the park. Her flavors are delicious without being overly sweet - we got lavender cake and German chocolate cupcakes that had our guests raving. She created a beautiful cutting cake for us, and we're so happy we found her!

We got 5 cakes from Short Street Cakes for our wedding. We had Short Street ice them all and then we decorated them with flowers. The cakes were amazing! Everyone loved them and Short Street was very easy to work with, I called ahead and ordered a few weeks prior and had someone pick the cakes up on the Saturday of our wedding. Everything was great and I highly recommend! I even went back to get cupcakes after our wedding! The flavors we got were. ◦    Triple Chocolate Ganache ◦    Lavender White Cake ◦    Carrot Spice Cake ◦    Birthday Cake - Gluten Free ◦    Salted Carmel - Gluten Free
